Recharge Health FAQ
FAQs
If you booked a Massage Therapy Treatment: We begin with a clinical discussion of your health history and a targeted physical assessment of your primary areas of tension or pain. Your Registered Massage Therapist (RMT) will then leave the room so you can disrobe to your comfort level and settle safely onto the treatment table under the sheets. The remainder of your session is dedicated to direct, hands-on soft tissue therapy and myofascial release focused on your clinical goals. Your RMT may also provide homecare to help you maintain your progress between visits. If you booked an Initial Osteopathic Assessment & Treatment: This session is a comprehensive, whole-body assessment. You will remain fully clothed throughout the entire appointment, so please wear lightweight, flexible athletic attire. Your Osteopathic Manual Practitioner will guide you through active movement and standing postural assessments to examine your joint mechanics and structural alignment. The hands-on treatment that follows uses gentle joint mobilization, stretching, and muscular balancing to restore systemic balance to your body's structure. If you booked a Pain & Movement Assessment or Integrative Functional Massage session: This highly comprehensive session begins with a thorough, objective evaluation of your posture, gait, and functional movement patterns to isolate exactly where your body is compensating or holding structural stress. Following this deep-dive assessment, you will receive targeted manual massage therapy to release restricted tissues. The defining feature of this session is a dedicated block of time where your practitioner will actively coach you through customized postural and functional movement exercises. These personalized movements are designed for you to practice between visits to release tension and redistribute your body's structural load in a more optimal way, directly relieving pain, improving movement mechanics, and leading to long-lasting results.
We recommend wearing or bringing lightweight, flexible clothing, such as athletic shorts, a t-shirt, a tank top, or yoga pants. Because our assessments and osteopathic structural work involve active movement mapping and checking your joint mechanics, comfortable clothing allows us to accurately observe your posture and movement without restricting your body.
Frequency depends entirely on your specific goals, how chronic your condition is, and how your body responds to the initial care. We do not believe in generic, endless treatment cycles; instead, we build a care plan that evolves with you. Our ultimate goal is to get you out of acute pain, stabilize your movement patterns, and transition you to a sustainable maintenance or preventative schedule.
The most common side effect is a mild, structural soreness or fatigue, similar to the feeling after a good workout, which typically peaks within 24 to 48 hours. As your nervous system settles and your tissues adapt to structural alignment changes, this temporary soreness gives way to improved mobility and decreased pain. Drinking plenty of water and moving gently after your session helps support this recovery process.
Deep tissue work is highly subjective. What feels like deep, productive pressure to one person might feel overwhelming or entirely too light to another. Because everyone tolerates pressure differently, we do not provide a generic, uniform routine. Instead, we always align our approach with your specific goals and hopes for the treatment, working directly within your unique comfort level and checking in with you throughout the session to ensure the depth is effective.Because your experience is our priority, it is incredibly important that you speak up if your needs are not being met during a treatment. Communication is a two-way street, and our practitioners are always ready to adapt their techniques to better support you. However, it is also important to understand that just as clients have personal limits on how much pressure their body can receive, therapists also have structural limits on how much physical pressure they can sustainably give. If you have clearly communicated the pressure you are looking for, and your therapist has adjusted their approach but reached their physical limit, that therapist simply may not be the ideal therapeutic fit for your specific preferences, and that is completely okay. Healing requires the right partnership; because we have several skilled practitioners on our team, we are always happy to seamlessly refer you to a colleague within the clinic who matches your exact treatment style and needs.
Yes. Massage Therapy directly influences the nervous and circulatory systems to assist with these conditions. By decreasing hypertonicity in muscles that may be compressing local neural pathways, we help reduce nerve discomfort. Additionally, our techniques assist with mechanical fluid clearance and tissue mobilization, which naturally supports healthy local blood circulation and down-regulates systemic inflammatory responses.
Absolutely. Chronic conditions like TMJ, persistent headaches, and long-standing back pain are rarely isolated issues; they are almost always tied to systemic postural patterns, muscular compensations, and myofascial restrictions throughout the body. Because every individual experiences these conditions differently, our clinic provides several distinct treatment options tailored to your specific clinical needs. Please visit our dedicated pages for TMJ & Jaw Tension or Tension Headaches and Migraines to learn more about our specific approach to treatment. Our available options include:Registered Massage Therapy: Our Targeted Relief Massage focuses specifically on identifying and releasing deep myofascial trigger points in the neck, shoulders, and jaw that frequently trigger tension headaches and jaw discomfort.Therapeutic Facial: A specialized treatment designed for women suffering from chronic TMJ pain and headaches. This session includes highly effective intra-oral (buccal) massage techniques to safely access and relieve deep, hard-to-reach jaw tension from the inside out.Osteopathy: A comprehensive, whole-body assessment and treatment. Instead of just treating where it hurts, our Osteopathic Manual Practitioner looks at how your bones, muscles, fascia, and fluid systems connect, focusing on aligning the entire body to relieve systemic strain and pain.Integrative Functional Massage Therapy (IFMT): This dual-approach treatment combines targeted manual massage with personalized posture and functional movement coaching. By looking at how you move through your daily life, we get directly to the root cause of your chronic pain and build a customized, proactive plan to restore pain-free movement.By performing a thorough evaluation, we can help you select the exact modality, or combination of therapies, needed to target your discomfort at its source and deliver long-lasting results.
While both modalities focus heavily on structural alignment and musculoskeletal health, their philosophies and treatment styles differ. Chiropractors primarily focus on the nervous system through the alignment of the spine, often using high-velocity, low-amplitude manual adjustments (rapid "cracks") to restore joint mobility. Osteopathic Manual Practitioners view the body as a completely integrated system, focusing on how the structural bones, muscles, fascia, and fluid systems interact, using gentle joint mobilization, muscular balancing, and visceral techniques to restore overall mechanics.
No, our osteopathic treatments focus on gentle, systemic joint mobilization and soft-tissue balancing. We work with your body's natural resistance barriers using fluid, rhythmic movements rather than rapid, aggressive jerks or forcing sudden "cracking" sounds. This makes the treatment exceptionally safe, comfortable, and highly effective for calming an overactive nervous system.

Your safety is our absolute priority. Before any hands-on therapy takes place, we perform clinical screening through your health history form and intake with your practitioner before treatment begins. If we detect any "red flags", such as signs of acute structural injury, deep vein thrombosis, or unmanaged systemic medical issues, we will immediately adapt the treatment safely or refer you to the appropriate medical professional.
Yes, certain conditions require us to modify or completely avoid specific areas to ensure your safety. Local contraindications include open wounds, acute infections, severe localized inflammation, or compromised skin integrity. Systemic conditions like high-risk pregnancies or certain circulatory disorders require specific clinical adaptations, which we will completely map out with you during your initial assessment.
Please speak up immediately, your feedback is an essential part of the treatment. Every body handles pressure differently, and what feels productive to one person may cause another's nervous system to guard or tense up. Our practitioners check in with you regularly, but you always have total control over your session, and we will instantly modify our pressure or technique the moment you request it.
