REST & RESET

Lymphatic Drainage Massage in Thorold

Gentle treatment. Thoughtful care for fluid-related swelling and comfort.

Lymphatic Drainage Massage uses light, rhythmic techniques to encourage lymphatic fluid movement. Unlike deeper massage aimed at muscular tension, Manual Lymphatic Drainage works gently with the skin and superficial tissues.

At Recharge Health, choose body-focused treatment, facial lymphatic care or an appointment combining both. Each session begins with a review of your health history, concerns and goals so treatment can be adapted appropriately.

What is Manual Lymphatic Drainage?

A lighter approach to hands-on care

Your lymphatic system helps return excess fluid from your tissues to your circulation and plays a role in immune function.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage, often called MLD, uses gentle, repetitive movements intended to support that fluid movement. The technique follows a deliberate sequence rather than working deeply into tight muscles.

Why is the pressure so light?

Many of the lymphatic vessels targeted during treatment sit just beneath the skin. Gentle pressure and precise skin movements work with these superficial vessels to encourage lymphatic fluid movement. This is why Manual Lymphatic Drainage uses a lighter touch than massage focused on deeper muscles.

At Recharge Health, this focused technique is offered within our Rest & Reset approach. Slow pacing and rhythmic touch create space to unwind while your therapist addresses the areas relevant to your treatment goals.

When might lymphatic massage be appropriate?

Fluid-related swelling and a feeling of heaviness

Some people seek lymphatic treatment for ongoing swelling or a heavy, tight feeling associated with fluid accumulation.

Your therapist will discuss the location, history and known cause of swelling before deciding whether treatment is appropriate. New or unexplained swelling should be medically assessed before booking.

Post-operative recovery

Lymphatic treatment may form part of a post-operative care plan when recommended by your surgical team.

Contact us before booking so we can review the procedure, stage of healing and your surgeon’s instructions. Surgeon clearance is required, and treatment timing and areas must reflect your individual recovery.

Pregnancy-related swelling

Pregnancy can bring changes in comfort and swelling. If this is your reason for booking, contact us first so we can discuss your pregnancy, health history and whether lymphatic treatment is suitable.

Your positioning and treatment areas will be adapted to your comfort and stage of pregnancy.

Facial puffiness and restorative facial care

If your main priority is your face and neck, Recharge Lymphatic Facial Massage offers dedicated facial MLD alongside facial massage, Gua Sha, skincare and scalp treatment.

This is a separate appointment from Therapeutic Facial Massage, which places greater emphasis on muscular tension and deeper jaw work.

What to expect at your appointment

01

Begin with a conversation

Your therapist will ask about your concerns, relevant medical history, medications, recent procedures and any changes in swelling.

If you’re recovering from surgery or receiving medical care, please let us know what your healthcare team has recommended. We’ll review their guidance with you and discuss how to adapt your treatment.

02

Receive gentle, rhythmic treatment

Treatment uses light pressure and a planned sequence, with areas selected according to your assessment and goals.

You will be comfortably positioned and appropriately draped. Your therapist will explain the proposed treatment and obtain your consent before beginning.

03

Review your response

Before you leave, your therapist will discuss how you felt during treatment and what to monitor afterward.

Follow-up recommendations depend on your reason for booking, your response and any wider care plan. A set number of appointments is not required for everyone.

Facial lymphatic care or Therapeutic Facial Massage?

Choose Recharge Lymphatic Facial Massage if:

Your main concern is facial puffiness or a heavy, congested feeling through your face, and you want gentle lymphatic-focused care within a restorative appointment.

Choose this option for facial and neck Manual Lymphatic Drainage combined with facial massage, Gua Sha, skincare and scalp treatment, rather than deeper work for jaw tension.

Choose Therapeutic Facial Massage if:

Your priority is muscular tension through the jaw, face, temples, scalp and neck. This treatment may include optional intraoral buccal work alongside head massage techniques, warm towels and cold globes.

Before you book

Lymphatic treatment needs to be appropriate for the cause of your symptoms and your overall health.

Please do not book while you have an active infection, a suspected or confirmed blood clot, or new, unexplained swelling. Seek medical assessment first.

Contact us before booking if you:

  • Have a heart or kidney condition.
  • Have diagnosed lymphedema or swelling following cancer treatment.
  • Have a high-risk pregnancy or concerns about pregnancy-related swelling.
  • Have been advised to restrict massage or fluid-related treatment.

Post-operative appointments require surgeon clearance. If your needs call for specialized lymphedema management or complete decongestive therapy, we will recommend care with a certified lymphedema therapist.

Additional considerations for facial appointments

Please allow at least two weeks after Botox, fillers, microneedling, chemical peels or laser treatments, and 72 hours after dental work.

Tell your therapist about skin irritation, recent illness and sensitivities to skincare products, oils or botanicals. Follow any longer waiting period recommended by your treating provider.

Frequently asked questions

How is lymphatic drainage different from regular massage?

Manual Lymphatic Drainage uses light, repetitive movements intended to encourage lymphatic fluid movement.

Targeted Massage focuses on muscular discomfort and movement concerns, while Restorative Massage emphasizes relaxation and easing physical tension. Those appointments may use a broader range of soft-tissue techniques and pressures.

Choose according to your main goal rather than how much pressure you usually prefer.

Why does lymphatic massage use such light pressure?

Many of the lymphatic vessels targeted during treatment are located just beneath the skin. Gentle pressure and precise skin movements work with these superficial vessels rather than the deeper muscles.

The lighter touch is a specific part of the technique. Tell your therapist if anything feels uncomfortable during treatment.

Can I book for swelling?

If the cause of your swelling is known, contact us to discuss whether treatment is appropriate.

New, sudden or unexplained swelling needs medical assessment first. Lymphatic massage should not be used to delay finding out why swelling has developed.

Can I book after surgery?

Please contact us before booking. Surgeon clearance is required, and your therapist will review the procedure, healing stage and any restrictions.

There is no single waiting period that applies to every surgery. Your surgical team’s instructions guide when treatment can begin and which areas can be treated.

Do you treat lymphedema?

Please contact us before booking if you have diagnosed lymphedema, including swelling following cancer treatment.

We will discuss whether your needs fit the care available at Recharge Health. Complex lymphedema management and complete decongestive therapy require a certified lymphedema therapist.

Which appointment should I choose?

Choose the 50-minute Lymphatic Drainage Massage for body-focused care.

Choose the 50-minute Recharge Lymphatic Facial Massage for facial and neck MLD with facial massage, Gua Sha, skincare and scalp treatment.

Choose the 80-minute combined appointment for body and facial lymphatic treatment.

If you are unsure, contact us with your main concern before booking.

Is the lymphatic facial the same as Therapeutic Facial Massage?

No. Recharge Lymphatic Facial Massage centres on facial and neck MLD, with Gua Sha, skincare, facial massage and scalp treatment.

Therapeutic Facial Massage focuses on muscular tension through the face, jaw, scalp and neck and may include optional intraoral buccal massage. Both have a restorative pace, but their treatment priorities differ.

Can I use my Massage Therapy benefits?

These appointments are provided as RMT services, and Massage Therapy receipts are issued.

Reimbursement depends on your individual plan, remaining benefits and any referral requirements. Direct billing is available through participating insurers for eligible appointments.
